Flappy Kiwi
The gate, and where to hit it
- Tap to flap. Touching the pitch is the end. Kiwis can't fly.
- Every ruck has a dashed gate on its left face and a dotted line at the top of the pile. Which face you cross is what counts, not how close you get.
- Under the line, through the gate · always safe. Level (under 25°) is HARD AND STRAIGHT for +200. Any other angle is +100.
- Over the top of the pile · a side entry, scored by how steep you land: Tier 3 under 40° +400, Tier 2 from 40° +900, Tier 1 from 60° +1500. One in four Tier 1 entries goes to the bunker.
- The panel reads your course as you approach, and the gold cross marks where you'll land.
The ref and the set pieces
- Watching · a side entry is a penalty: -250 the first time, a yellow card and -500 the second, a red card the third and you're off (unless a replacement is banked: 20-minute red, the sub runs on). Unsighted · come in from wherever you like. The switch is called a beat early.
- Scrums are two 3-4-1 packs on the ground. The SA scrum goes straight: CROUCH, BIND, SET, then it drives at you. The Kiwi scrum collapses, stands up and won't engage, or wheels 90°, and keeps changing. Get over it for +200, +150 more if you skim it.
- Lineouts · get over the pod for +200, +150 more if you skim it. The SA jumper goes up cleanly on QUICK. The Kiwi jumper sometimes goes up, sometimes doesn't, sometimes fakes it. Take him out in the air and it's a red card.
Pick-ups and hazards
- Subs board · banks a replacement kiwi.
- Hips · three rucks of any-angle immunity. 1.76 m of it.
- Envelope · a complaint lodged with World Rugby. Avoid it; the ref gets interested.
- Flour bomber · a Cessna drops flour bombs, Eden Park 1981 style. A hit ends the run. One near the ref blinds him. Use it.
- The speaker button mutes everything. Music on or off is here and on the start screen. Scores are verified by replay when the scoreboard is online.
